Duracell AA 8

The AA battery is the most widely used battery worldwide, powering countless devices. The IEC codes for AA batteries include the well-known LR6 for alkaline AA batteries and HR6 for rechargeable NiMH batteries. These batteries typically offer a voltage of 1.5V, while rechargeable versions usually deliver around 1.2V. You’ll also find new lithium AA batteries that provide significantly higher capacity for a slightly higher price.

Introduced back in 1907, the AA battery size was standardized by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) in 1947. However, it had already been used in flashlights and electric novelties long before it was officially standardized. The ANSI and IEC battery in naming system gives several designations for cells of this size, depending on their chemistry and characteristics. Each AA battery is 51mm long and 14mm in diameter.

You can find AA batteries in various formats: alkaline, saline, long-life lithium, and rechargeable with different capacities. Alkaline AA batteries have a shelf life of about 6 years, while their lithium counterparts can last up to 9 years before even being used. Modern rechargeable AA batteries are available in NiMH with capacities up to 2850mAh. Plus, they now come in "pre-charged" technology, allowing you to use them straight out of the package.
